ALAN WASHINGTON FOR hd99 2026

Meet the Candidate, Alan.
Alan Washington was born and raised in Oklahoma City, the proud son of Alma Faye Posey Washington and Booker T. Washington, Jr., and one of three brothers shaped by strong family values and a deep sense of responsibility to community. A graduate of Millwood High School and an alumnus of Langston University, Alan’s roots in District 99 run deep, grounding his lifelong commitment to service, equity, and opportunity.
Faith and community have always been central to Alan’s life. As a lifelong member of Fifth Street Missionary Baptist Church, he has served in numerous capacities, supporting music ministry, church leadership, historical preservation, and communications. Through his church, Alan learned the importance of stewardship, collective care, and showing up consistently for others—principles that continue to guide his public service today.
Alan’s civic leadership began early through his involvement with the NAACP Youth Council under the mentorship of the late civil rights icon Clara Luper. Serving as president, he gained firsthand experience organizing, advocating, and learning from leaders who helped shape Oklahoma’s civil rights history. That early foundation instilled in him a lifelong commitment to civic engagement, voter participation, and strengthening democracy at the grassroots level.
Service and advocacy have remained hallmarks of Alan’s journey. He is a founding member of Brother to Brother, Oklahoma City’s first HIV/AIDS awareness and prevention organization focused on African-American men, reflecting his dedication to public health, education, and compassion. Beyond advocacy, Alan is deeply engaged in the arts and civic life of Oklahoma City, contributing through theater, poetry, and volunteer service at the Civic Center—believing that culture and creativity are essential to strong communities.
Alan Washington is running for House District 99 because he believes now is the time to step forward and serve at an even greater level. He is committed to delivering real results for seniors, strengthening public education, expanding access to healthcare, and creating meaningful economic opportunities for working families. Grounded in faith, driven by service, and guided by community, Alan is ready to continue the work—together.
